Invisalign® Q & A

Who is a good candidate for Invisalign trays?

Invisalign trays are ideal for individuals who don't want the inconvenience of conventional braces. The clear trays are excellent for people who appear in public often, for example as part of their job, and want to avoid the look of heavy metal braces. A good candidate for the Invisalign system is someone who's responsible enough to maintain the schedule and use the trays as they're designed. The trays enable a person to go several hours during the day without wearing them. This gives them an opportunity to maintain their personal appearance without visible appliances. The trays are also clear and can be worn without being easily noticed.

What are the benefits of the Invisalign system?

The Invisalign system offers many benefits to patients who choose to use them. The trays are clear and easy to snap on and off the surface of the teeth. This makes it easy for the person to remove the trays before eating and extremely easy for the trays to be cleaned. Removing the trays also allows the patient to brush and floss their teeth regularly without fear of missing any debris that may be lodged between the teeth. The Invisalign® system works in the same way as conventional braces, but with the added benefit of being able to go several hours a day without the appliance in place.

How do the Invisalign trays work?

The Invisalign® system works by using a series of computer generated trays that make gradual adjustments to the patient's teeth over a specific period of time. Each tray provides a specific amount of adjustment and is worn for anywhere from 2-4 weeks, depending on how well the patient's teeth adjust to each one. The system can take anywhere from 12-24 months for the full effects of the trays to be realized. If a person has a more complex problem, they may have to be re-evaluated after the first series of trays has been completed. If their alignment still needs work, another partial series may be required.
